About Vale da Seda
Vale da Seda means Silk Valley and it gives name to a region responsible for the largest production of silkworm cocoons in the Western World. It is located in the Northwest of Paraná state and covers 29 cities in the hydrographic basin of Pirapó River.
Region also gives name to Instituto VALE da SEDA, a non-profit organization founded in 2001 that aims to promote the use of silk as an effective way to contribute to strengthening of sustainable consumption, regional development and reduction of carbon footprint in fashion industry which, according to Ellen MacArthur Foundation, accounts for about 10% of global carbon footprint.
Even in a pre-pandemic world, a change in consumption pattern made by Millennium Generation had led several companies to restructure their business models by strengthening transparency, sustainable consumption and reducing carbon footprint.
Silk has a lot to contribute to fashion industry sustainability. For its production, mulberry trees are needed and they sequester CO2 from atmosphere and transform it on leaves, branches, stems and roots in a volume much higher than carbon footprint that will be left by the silk produced by silkworms fed with their leaves.
Do you want a more sustainable and fair world? Use silk.
